Qld: Disabled yacht towed into Darwin

A disabled yacht with two men on board has been towed into Darwin after being damagedin rough seas and high winds.

Darwin police say the 18 metre Ruthean was on a voyage from East Timor to Darwin whenthe crew radioed yesterday morning that they had lost steering.

The crew reported they were drifting near Bathurst Island, north west of Darwin in40 knot winds and waves of up to four metres.

A spokesman for the Australian Search and Rescue Organisation says conditions weretoo rough for police vessels so navy patrol boat HMAS Townsville went to the boat's aid.

He says it reached the Ruthean at about 11pm last night and towed it into Darwin Harbourthis afternoon.
