NSW:NSW Roads Minister to review CBD gridlock

SYDNEY, April 11 AAP - The NSW Roads Minister will review Sunday's traffic gridlock
in Sydney's CBD at a meeting on Monday to ensure it doesn't recur.

The Harbour Bridge and several roads were closed for most of the morning to make way
for a world triathlon championship event, bringing parts of the city to a standstill and
causing long delays for motorists.

The problem was compounded by heavy traffic in the eastern suburbs due to the St George
Illawarra-Dragons and Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs game and the Sydney Family Show at
Moore Park.

Roads Minister Duncan Gay blamed the previous government, in conjunction with the RTA,
for approving the closures.

"Frankly it was a mess," he told Macquarie Radio Network on Monday.

"We'll be having a meeting this morning to review this.

"I appreciated that they (the RTA) apologised, which I believe is a new way the RTA
is operating; less arrogance."

"It shouldn't have happened and my job this morning is to make sure that it damn well
doesn't happen again."
