NSW: Man left in serious condition after pub glassing
SYDNEY, Aug 21 AAP - A Sydney pub brawl in which people armed themselves with bottles,
chairs and stools was sparked when a patron had a schooner glass smashed over his face,
police say.
A 19-year-old man was sitting on a stool at a Penrith hotel at about 1.10am (AEST)
on Friday when police allege he was struck in the face with a schooner glass by a 21-year-old
man.
"Police arrived at the location a short time later to find a large number of people
fighting in the car park area," police said in a statement.
"Police observed several people to be carrying bottles, chairs and stools and were
forced to subdue the crowd with the use of capsicum spray."
The officers had to call for back-up from neighbouring commands to control the incident.
The victim of the glassing was taken to Nepean Hospital in a serious condition where
he has since undergone surgery for cuts to his neck and eye.
The 21-year-old Penrith man was later charged with malicious wounding.
He was refused bail and is due to face Penrith Local Court on Friday.
